Everybody Gets a Spot!

Join us on 8/6/21 at 11 - 12 PST

Whenever I think of a beloved pet, I imagine them in one of their favorite spots. Humans and animals are greatly comforted by the security that surrounds having a safe place to call their own.

Designing safe spaces in classrooms and within schools is a necessity and a vital part of educational trauma informed practices. These spaces have a variety of names and serve a number of functions. We will examine common practices and the latest research around three main safe space types. Using a functional based process, you will have the opportunity to determine what types of safe spaces meet the current needs or your classroom and school and how to implement strategically and intentionally. We will explore ways to reduce these spaces serving as escape maintained reinforcement, ways to reduce time away from instruction and how to create a fading process.
